A glazing mask and four full sets of national insignia for the amphibious Supermarine Walrus in 1:48 scale. The set is figured for the Classic Airframes kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Supermarine Walrus was an amphibious biplane with a pusher propeller that took off from the catapults of cruisers and battleships. It looked for the enemy beyond the horizon, directed gunfire, and in the war years it became known above all as a rescuer of downed crews from the surface of the sea. The boat hull, the struts and the outrigger floats make it a model with an unusually broken-up surface.
What stands out in this item is not the cockpit but the insignia. Four sets is above average in this line of masks and it matches a machine that carried roundels on the upper and the lower surface of both wings plus on the fuselage. Next to them the cockpit mask comes along almost as an extra.
The glazing is covered from the outer side, and the insignia then come in four sets. A biplane means many struts, so the order of work is clear: mask and spray the cockpit first, and only then assemble the flying surfaces. Once they are glued you will reach the canopy only with difficulty and at the risk of catching a strut.
A beginner will not enjoy this machine because of the struts, not because of the mask. The masking itself is simple. It is worth getting thin painting tape for filling in the transitions on the fuselage and a thicker cyanoacrylate glue for assembling the biplane structure. The transition between the fuselage and the lower surface of the wing is the tightest spot on this machine, so allow for it in the build plan as the first step.
