Westland Lynx AH-7 masking set 1:48 (New Ware, Expert line)

A set of precisely cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the Westland Lynx AH-7 helicopter in 1:48 scale. It serves to cover the glazing and other areas that are to stay free of paint while spraying. At New Ware the Expert line is a wider variant of the set than the basic Basic one; the exact extent of the particular boxing is stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.

The real subject

The Lynx is a British twin-engine multirole helicopter whose land-based versions serve for transport, liaison, reconnaissance and support. The AH-7 variant was operated by the British Army Air Corps and differs from the earlier machines in, among other things, a reworked tail rotor and its equipment. Characteristic of it is the extensively glazed pilot's cabin with many narrow frames, and it is exactly that which makes masking by hand a lengthy job and the main reason to reach for a ready-made set of masks.

Use

• Paint and finish the interior of the cabin before you mask the glazing and fit it to the fuselage.
• Work from the largest pieces to the smallest and keep to the numbering on the sheet so that you do not lose track of the pieces.
• On the broken-up helicopter glazing, check that the mask sits inside the frame and does not overhang the edge.
• Apply the paint first in one very thin covering layer that seals the edge of the mask, and only then spray the shade at full strength.
• Take the masks off before the matte clear coat goes on the model, otherwise the edge is needlessly thickened.
