This resin set from the Quickboost brand, made by Aires, brings faithfully cast exhausts for a model of the British liaison and observation aircraft Westland Lysander in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers, replacing the solid plastic exhaust with a casting of finer shape and a suggested outlet. The side of the engine cowling gains a more realistic look and is easier to weather.

The real subject

The Westland Lysander was a British liaison and observation aircraft with a Bristol radial engine, a high-set wing and fixed landing gear, used before and during the Second World War. Thanks to its excellent short-field takeoff and landing qualities it became famous for secret night flights into occupied France, where it dropped off and picked up agents working with the resistance.

Tips for working with resin

First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the cut surfaces with your airways protected. Bond the parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate), not with plastic cement.
