The letters HC in the designation of the Sea King stand for a transport role: the machine carries troops and cargo, not search equipment. The HC.4 version serves to put units ashore and to supply them, and against the anti-submarine Sea Kings it has free space inside. The fuselage has stayed massive, the main rotor has five blades and the tail boom folds, so that the helicopter fits into a ship's hangar.
Photo-etched parts are made by etching the outline out of thin metal sheet. Thanks to that, sheet metal on a model looks like sheet metal, whereas the same shape in plastic has to be several times thicker for the sake of production. It pays off everywhere that is visible on a finished model, and on a transport helicopter with large doors and extensive glazing there is no shortage of such places. The list of the parts and their positions is given in the maker's instructions.
Before you reach for the glue, go through the instructions and plan out what is fitted before the fuselage is glued together and what only after painting. Try the parts dry and sand the plastic underneath them down as needed, so that the part seats across its whole face. Transfer cyanoacrylate glue onto the part with the tip of a toothpick or of a wire, not straight from the tube. Make the bends along their whole length at once, following the etched groove. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and spray it over with a primer for metal, or the paint will come off during handling.
For modelers who are building the Sea King in 1:48 scale and want to take it beyond the level of an out-of-the-box build. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
