This item is not a kit or a photo-etched set but a set of masks. It is self-adhesive film cut in advance to the shape of the cockpit frames and of the other areas that have to be covered while spraying. The modeler peels the template off its backing, sticks it onto the clear part, sprays the framing and lifts the mask off once the paint has dried. That does away with the most unpleasant part of a build, the hand trimming of masking tape with a knife directly on the glazing, where a single slip means a scratch that you will never get out of a clear part again.
The double-sided version. The name describes the set as double-sided, so it allows for masking the outer and the inner side of the glazing. Inner masking makes sense where the cockpit frames are visible from inside and are meant to be painted in the interior color. Stick the inner templates on before you seat the clear part in the fuselage.
The Yak-9 was a Soviet single-engine fighter of the Second World War period, derived from the earlier Yak-7 family and built in large numbers. Compared with the basic configuration, the D version had an increased fuel load, which extended its range and allowed longer-range escort duties. The cockpit has fairly simple but prominent framing, so masking makes the difference between a sharp and a blurred edge easy to see.
Before masking, wash the glazing in a degreasing bath and let it dry thoroughly, or the film will not hold. Carry the templates with tweezers and press them down along the frames with a wooden toothpick or stick. Lay the paint on in thin coats; a heavy coat runs under the edge of the mask and the line bleeds. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, not after several weeks, and pull it along the surface rather than straight up.
