About product

Yakovlev Yak-1 (early version) - plastic kit from Modelsvit, 1:48 scale

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet fighter Yakovlev Yak-1 in the early version in 1:48 scale from the Ukrainian brand Modelsvit. The model captures an early machine with a fixed canopy and offers a detailed cockpit, clear parts and a fine engraved surface; it is a modern tooling with generous detail. The exact contents of the box and the decal schemes are given in the instructions inside.

The real subject

The Yak-1 was a single-seat Soviet fighter that became the basis of the whole successful line of Yakovlev fighters of the Second World War. It had mixed construction with wooden wings and it was agile, easy to handle and easy to build and repair under field conditions. The early version still had a fixed, framed cockpit canopy with a poorer view to the rear, which was later followed by machines with a sliding bubble canopy. The Soviet Air Force committed the Yak-1 from the first months of the fighting on the Eastern Front, and it also equipped the famous fighter unit with women pilots. The aircraft laid the foundation for the later Yak-7 and Yak-9 versions.

Building and painting tips

The new tooling offers generous cockpit detail - it pays to paint the seat, the instrument panel and the belts carefully before closing the fuselage. Fit the framed canopy after varnishing and mask the framing. Lay the Soviet camouflage on with an airbrush with soft transitions, and use a gloss varnish under the decals. Shade the wooden wing surfaces discreetly and bring the fine engraved surface to life with a wash; seat the stores and the exhausts at the end.

Who the model is for

  • For collectors of Soviet fighters of the Second World War.
  • For fans of the Eastern Front and of the Yakovlev fighter family.
  • For modelers who will appreciate a modern tooling with generous detail.
  • For more advanced builders interested in early versions.

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
