The Lancer Evolution was created for homologation in World Championship rallying and differed from the basic sedan in everything essential: a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, all-wheel drive and a strengthened suspension. The third generation of the mid-1990s was given a strikingly shaped front bumper with large cooling openings and a substantial rear wing. It is that form that collectors recognize most easily.
