Group 5, which in Japan was called Super Silhouette, allowed almost anything at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s. Of the production car only the outlines of the roof and the doors had to remain; about the rest the designers decided. Out of that came machines with enormous widenings, flat sills and wings the size of a kitchen counter. It is precisely this era that the Nagoya workshop Liberty Walk quotes with its LB-Super Silhouette kit.
The FD3S type was built from 1991 to 2002 and to this day is among the most cleanly drawn Japanese coupes. The power came from the twin-rotor 13B-REW Wankel with a pair of sequentially arranged turbochargers; from 1308 cubic centimeters of chamber displacement it gave 255 to 280 horses depending on the version. The low and deeply mounted engine gave the car a distribution of weight that was hard to find among the coupes of the time.
The body is cast from metal, the accessories and the interior are plastic, the tires rubber. Seven centimeters of length, no finishing work, no gluing. The black paint lets the widened fenders and the rear wing come out.
The brand is led by Wataru Kato and its conversions stand on cut fenders with riveted flares, a pronounced negative camber of the wheels and air suspension, which lets a car sit right down on the ground.
The Nagoya workshop began with Japanese coupes; today it dresses Italian supercars as well and its parts are exported all over the world. This very type, though, is among the cars on which it first made its name.
