The battleship Musashi in her 1944 form and the Sho Ichigo operation. A plastic kit in 1:700 scale from the Japanese maker Fujimi.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from the Fujimi brand captures the Japanese battleship in her final form, that is at the end of 1944. The reference to the Sho Ichigo operation in the name identifies the particular deployment the form of the ship relates to. The 1:700 scale is the usual one for warships and makes it possible to build whole squadrons in a single size.
During the war the ship went through an extensive strengthening of her light anti-aircraft armament, because the main threat ceased to be enemy guns and became aircraft. In the autumn of 1944 she sailed as part of a large Japanese operation toward the Philippines and in its course succumbed to concentrated air attacks. That is where the appearance the set captures comes from: superstructures and decks studded with mounts of rapid-fire weapons and a darker finish.
The quantity of small weapon positions is the main challenge of the whole build. It pays to paint them while still on the sprue and to fit them right at the end, so that they do not break off. Apply shadows into the recesses with a thin dark shade after painting, but before the dry-brushing with which you bring out the edges. Keep the decks lighter than the hull, otherwise the model will flatten out visually.
The kit comes without a finish and unassembled; paints, glues and tools are bought separately.
