The kit Fujimi 1:700 IJN Aircraft Carrier Hiyo (1944) depicts a Japanese aircraft carrier with a reference to the battle of the Philippine Sea.
Responsibility details are not available.
The aircraft carrier Hiyo from the Japanese maker Fujimi. The name of the item gives the year 1944 and a reference to the engagement in the Philippine Sea, so the model is aimed at collectors who put a fleet together by particular operations.
The Hiyo was not built as a warship from the keel up. She was created by converting the hull of a large ocean liner, which let the Imperial Japanese Navy obtain a carrier sooner than it could have completed a new build. That speed came at a price, however: against ships built directly for this service she was slower and less well protected. In June 1944 aerial torpedoes hit her in the Philippine Sea and she sank.
Deal with the large areas with an airbrush and reach for a brush on the small items. It is practical to spray and finish the flight deck before the railings and other fine details go onto it. The island superstructure and the funnel are worth working on slowly, because it is they that decide whether the model looks faithful. The extensive deck area comes to life when, after the base shade, you tone it lightly and bring out the seams.
This is an unassembled model without a finish. Obtain paints, glue and any accessories separately, unless stated otherwise.
