The Consolidated B-24D Liberator is an American four-engined heavy bomber with a high-set slender wing and a pair of vertical tail surfaces. The fuselage is deep and its middle section is taken up by a large bomb bay. It is closed not by the usual hinged covers but by doors that are drawn up along the sides of the fuselage like a roller blind. An open bomb bay therefore reveals a large piece of internal structure on a model, visible from the side and from below.
A photo-etched metal fret in 1:48 scale from Eduard's production, aimed according to the name at precisely the bomb bay area. Photo-etching allows thin stiffeners, the catwalk and small fittings to be made at a thickness a plastic part can never reach. Which parts the fret carries and where they are fitted is given in the manufacturer's instructions. Follow them for the order of work as well: the bomb bay can be reached comfortably only before the fuselage halves are glued.
Cut the tab holding a part with a sharp blade against a hard surface; never break it off, as a part torn away will twist. Make the bends along the etched score line and draw them home with a straight edge, so that they come out the same along their whole length. They are bonded with super glue applied in a tiny amount, for instance on the tip of a wire; a surplus will flood the fine relief. Before painting, degrease the metal and use a primer for metal, otherwise the shade rubs off when the model is handled.
The package holds a photo-etched fret according to the manufacturer's listing. The kit, the paints, the glue and the decals are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
