A printed sheet with the four-color lozenge pattern for the lower surfaces in 1:32 scale. The artwork is rendered as faded, with the texture of fabric and with an imitation of the overprint, printed on a white base.
Responsibility details are not available.
A sheet with the German lozenge camouflage pattern in the four-color version for the lower surfaces of a model. The artwork is not rendered as fresh factory paint but as fabric after time in service: the shades are muted and the texture of the fabric as well as a slight irregularity of the overprint is visible across the surface.
Lozenge is a pattern of polygonal fields which at the close of the First World War was printed directly onto the covering fabric of German aircraft. It replaced the laborious spraying of camouflage and broke up the outline of the machine at a distance. The lower surfaces were given a lighter set of shades than the upper ones, so that the aircraft would stand out less against the sky. Beside the five-color variant, the four-color one is among the most frequently reproduced.
Prepare the base smooth and glossy; on matte paint a silvery veil forms under the film. Cut the sheet into strips so that they follow on from the ribs and the seams of the covering, and rather with a small overlap. Leave the piece in lukewarm water only until it can be moved, transfer it to a dampened place and press the water out with a soft cloth from the center outward. Adhesion into the details is helped by softener, and once dry, varnish the surface over.
The box holds only the printed sheet. The model, paints, glue and softener are not included, unless stated otherwise.
