This premium plastic kit from RYE FIELD MODEL in 1:35 scale captures the late version of the M4A3 tank fitted with the 76 mm gun and VVSS suspension, and does so in the upgraded version. The kit contains parts for a fully equipped interior, workable tracks, a working suspension, two photo-etched frets, a metal barrel and 3D-printed parts. The upgraded version adds, among other things, photo-etched fenders and 3D-printed parts for the M2 machine gun, jerrycans and further accessories. The decals allow several finishes to be built.

The real subject

The M4 Sherman was the main American medium tank of the Second World War. The late M4A3 version with the Ford gasoline engine and the 76 mm gun of higher penetrating power was among the most capable Shermans; the running gear with VVSS suspension and vertical volute springs was typical of this family.

Building and painting tips

Finish and paint the interior before you close up the hull and the turret; the completed inner spaces show to advantage with the hatches open. Assemble the running gear and the tracks with their movement in mind. Bring the surface to life with washes and dust or mud pigments for realistic weathering.
