An accessory part for the cockpit of a model of the Japanese A6M fighter. It replaces the bulkhead with the seat that the kit offers only in simplified form, and captures it in the bottom position, that is run all the way down.
The pilot's seat on the A6M could be adjusted for height, and its position changes the whole view into the cockpit: the lower the seat is, the more of the frame of the bulkhead behind it and of the structure at the sides is visible. The molded part from the kit tends to be thicker than it should be in scale, and the edges of the backrest are rounded. The separate replacement part is thinner and crisper by comparison, which is useful above all with an open cockpit canopy, where you can see in.
Cut the surplus material and the marks from production away with a sharp blade a little from the part and sand the rest down with fine paper. Seat the part dry and test whether the fuselage halves come together once it is in place; with replacement parts for a cockpit that is the most common snag. Wash and degrease it before painting. The shade of the interior on the A6M differs with the airframe manufacturer and with the series, so work from the references for the version you are building. Leave the belts and the small elements until the surface is painted, otherwise they are hard to shade.
