A limited insignia set in thin masking tape. It contains the shapes of the crowns, the national insignia and the large fuselage numerals, which on Swedish machines are among the most conspicuous elements of the whole finish. In a large scale, spraying is the only way to keep the numerals sharp and without a glossy edge.
The Viggen came about to a specification that existed nowhere else: Sweden reckoned that in the event of a conflict it would lose its airfields, and therefore needed a combat machine able to operate from widened stretches of ordinary roads. The answer was a canard surface ahead of the main delta wing, a robust landing gear and a thrust reverser, thanks to which the aircraft touched down and braked within a few hundred meters. Strike, reconnaissance, training and purely fighter versions took their turn in service and the machine became a symbol of Swedish armed neutrality. Series production ran from the beginning of the 1970s and the last examples served out their time only after the turn of the millennium.
Lay the large numerals out dry first and only then tear the backing off, because moving a mask once laid without damaging it is no longer possible. On the intricate side of the fuselage press the edges down with a blunt tool. Under deep shades we recommend a covering intermediate layer. The deep blue and yellow of the Swedish insignia will take three thin layers, with only a short pause between them.
