Masks for the splinter camouflage of the Su-57 Felon aircraft in 1:72 scale from DN Models. The broken pattern in which the machine was first shown to the public is divided across two sheets.
Responsibility details are not available.
When the Russian fifth-generation machine first showed itself to the public, it carried a pronounced broken finish composed of large angular areas. In 1:72 such a pattern has one unpleasant feature: the boundaries are long and straight, so even the slightest ripple of hand-cut tape is immediately visible on the finished model. The set removes this problem with two sheets of pre-cut fields.
A splinter scheme works with several large wedges and sharp breaks, whereas a pixel finish breaks the area down into many small fields. On a model that means a different procedure and a different number of necessary layers. Splinter is sprayed faster, but it does not forgive imprecise lining up across the edge of the wing and across the air intakes.
The Su-57 is a Russian fifth-generation combat aircraft with low radar reflectivity, weapons hidden in the fuselage and engines with vectored thrust. Prototypes under the designation T-50 flew from 2010 and it was precisely on them that a number of trial finishes appeared. The broken scheme is the best known of them and to this day the machine is most often depicted in it.
