1:32 Lancaster B Mk.I Johnny Walker and Getting Younger Every Day Paint Mask Set offers masks of the marking of two particular bombers of the 9th Squadron from 1944.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set commemorates a pair of Lancasters which in 1944 flew with the 9th Squadron of the Royal Air Force from Bardney base. The first is the machine with the code WS-J, known under the nickname Johnny Walker with the addition Still Going Strong, the second then WS-Y nicknamed Getting Younger Every Day. Three sheets cover the large identification letters, the roundels and other sizeable elements of the marking of both aircraft.
The masks deal with the large areas of the marking, that is, the letters and the roundels. The drawn nose art itself is transferred to the model by decal and is not contained in this set. It is good to allow for that in advance, so that it does not catch you out on a part-built model.
The four-engine Avro Lancaster formed the core of the night formations of British bomber aviation. The 9th Squadron was among the units armed for attacks with the heaviest bombs, and its machines carried individual paintings on the nose, which were often supplemented by rows marking the number of raids flown. It is precisely such aircraft that have a special standing among collectors, because behind every name stands a particular crew.
The set is intended for the large Lancaster kits; a model and decals are not enclosed.
