An extensive set of masks for the RAM panels of the F-35A aircraft in 1:48 scale on four sheets. It aims at the early form of the finish, where these areas are lighter than their surroundings.
Responsibility details are not available.
Four sheets of pre-cut stencils for spraying the panels of material absorbing radar waves on a model of the F-35A in 1:48 scale. The set is aimed at the early form of the finish, in which these areas are distinctly lighter than the surrounding gray paint.
The Lightning II is not of one color, as it seems from a distance. The surface of the airframe is covered by strips of a special material damping the reflection of radar, and on the first production machines their shade differed visibly from the base paint. On the later aircraft the difference was effaced and the resulting impression is almost uniform. Anyone building an early example needs to separate the panels; anyone building a newer one does not.
First spray the base shade, let it cure properly and only then lay the stencils onto the areas that are to stay lighter. The difference between the two tones is subtle, so it pays to mix the paint in small steps and to test it on an offcut. The material is flexible and adheres to the leading edges and to the transitions between the fuselage and the wing as well.
Only the masks themselves are part of the delivery.
