Pre-cut shapes for the British camouflage scheme of type B on the Spitfire in 1:48 scale. One sheet, the whole upper surfaces of the airframe.
Responsibility details are not available.
British day fighters of the end of the 1930s were given a two-color scheme on the upper surfaces in two renditions, which differ from each other like a right and a left hand: one is the mirror image of the other. This set contains type B. The sheets are of thin masking tape, are supplied as a single piece, and the shapes are based on the dimensions of the widespread Czech mold, so they also fit most of the other Spitfire kits in this scale. The material is semi-transparent and after spraying it comes off without sticky traces.
The divided field of brown and green was meant to hide the aircraft from an observer above, that is, over its own or enemy territory. The pattern was bindingly prescribed, which for a modeler is an advantage: the boundaries of the fields are not arbitrary and can be compared with period documentation. The mirror variant is designated as type A and machines with both forms served side by side, so a pair of models in the same colors can look surprisingly different.
First comes the lighter of the two shades over the whole upper surface. After curing, lay the masks, press the edges down and spray the darker color. Under the mask the edge stays sharp; anyone who wants the period softer transition line can raise the mask slightly on small spacers. The lower surfaces are masked separately, because their boundaries run along the leading edges.
