The infantryman's equipment: Waffen-SS figure number 10

The tenth item of the infantry line of the brand BlackSnake Model arrives as a single resin figure in 1:35 scale. The French maker banks on printing at high resolution, so even straps a few tenths of a millimeter wide have a distinct profile and you do not have to replace them with photo-etched parts. Besides combat equipment, the figure also serves as a living reference for the scale.

What belonged to a German infantryman

The standard field gear rested on a leather belt with Y-straps, from which hung ammunition pouches, a bread bag, a canteen, a mess tin and a gas mask case. A Zeltbahn was often carried across the back, which served as a rain cape and as a part of a group shelter. The combination of the things carried gave away whether the soldier was heading into battle or on a march.

The recommended building procedure

First cut the print supports off with a fine-toothed saw and sand the surfaces in two passes, coarse and then fine. Fill the seams between the torso and the limbs with putty, because once it is painted every gap is swallowed by shadow. A base of light primer reveals the remaining marks from printing before the first covering shade falls on the figure.
