Lightweight flange bolts, 1.5 to 2.5 mm

A lightweight flange bolt is a fastener used on racing cars wherever every gram counts: material is taken out of the head and a flange is integrated underneath it, so no separate washer is needed. On a model it is a detail that immediately says this is a competition machine and not a production car. In a kit it is suggested at most by a tiny raised spot in the molding, which disappears completely once the seam is sanded. The set offers a range of sizes from 1.5 to 2.5 mm, so a size can be chosen to match both the scale and the particular location.

Usage tips

• Choose the size according to the scale and to what the bolt holds on the real thing.
• Drill the hole with a micro drill and try the diameter on an offcut first.
• Bond with a tiny amount of super glue; any excess creeps under the flange.
• A metallic look comes only after priming; a smooth surface otherwise does not hold the paint.
• Sort the parts by size into dishes beforehand, because on the bench they get mixed up at once.
• Work over a mat, because a part of this size disappears off the bench without warning.

Who it is for

The set is for modelers of racing cars and motorcycles who are finishing off engine bays, suspension and bodywork. Fitting them is simple in itself; the harder part is working out where the bolts belong. The guide is always a photograph of the real car.

It is not a vehicle model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. The small parts are not suitable for young children.
