The plastic kit 1:146 U.S.S. Constitution builds the American heavy frigate of the end of the eighteenth century with full sails and rigging.
Responsibility details are not available.
The plastic kit portrays the American heavy frigate U.S.S. Constitution with all three masts, her sails and her gun battery. The finished model measures forty-three and a half centimeters long and nearly thirty centimeters high, goes together from just under two hundred parts and stands on the enclosed display stand.
The frigate was launched in Boston in 1797 as one of the first six ships of the US Navy. She earned the nickname Old Ironsides in 1812 in a duel with the British Guerriere, when the shot bounced off her oak side. She serves to this day and is the oldest vessel on the strength of the American fleet still capable of sailing. She lies in Boston harbor and from time to time puts out on a short turnaround cruise.
The most demanding part is the rigging, which it pays to prepare mast by mast away from the hull. The sails have a molded texture of fabric; the sheen of the plastic is suppressed by a matte finish in a sand shade. The sides come out well when the black band and the yellow line of the gun ports are applied over masks. The whole then stands out most on a dark base, which sets off the light rigging lines.
The package is unpainted; prepare the thread, paints and glue beforehand.
