America of 1954 in modified form: the Lincoln Capri as a hot rod, lowered and painted in purple metallic. A metal model, 1:64.
Responsibility details are not available.
America of the 1950s remembers the Lincoln Capri as the top of the brand's range, but motoring history knows it mainly from Mexico. In the Carrera Panamericana, that brutal long-distance race across the whole country, these cars dominated their class for several years in a row. A new overhead-valve eight-cylinder and a surprisingly well working chassis helped them to it.
In the American tradition hot rod means lightening, lowering and above all the stress on making the car look fast even standing still. On this form the body sat closer to the ground, the wheels were given a different size and the chrome elements changed against the production version. The result kept the long nose and the typical line of the flank, but its stance is markedly more aggressive.
Purple Metallic is a color the factory would never have mixed in the 1950s, and that is exactly why it suits a modified car. The sheen emphasizes the rounded surfaces of the fenders and the contrast with the chrome. The miniature arrives complete, printed and ready to go straight into a display case.
A classic American body catches the eye at once in a collection of modern sports cars, because it differs from them in proportions as well as in height.
The 1950s are also represented among miniatures far more rarely than present-day supercars. A long nose, rounded fenders and a broad grille represent a shape language that is nowhere repeated today, and that is exactly why such a piece catches the attention on a shelf even from a visitor who is otherwise not interested in cars.
