A sheet with fourteen marking variants of night fighter and intruder Mosquitos of the Mk.II version, from British, Allied and exile squadrons. 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The first fighter form of the wooden twin-engine machine carried the designation Mk.II, and the antler-like aerial array of the AI Mk.IV radar stuck out of its nose. The armament consisted of four 20 mm cannons in the floor of the fuselage and four machine guns above them, which made the aircraft the heaviest weapons platform taking off after dark at the time.
Some of the machines lacked the radar, because the set was not allowed to get over enemy territory. It was exactly these aircraft that set out for German bases and lay in wait over them at the moment when bombers were returning from a raid and landing with their lights on. No. 23 Squadron worked this way first over France and later from Sicily over southern Italy.
Because night aircraft wore an all-black or dark gray finish, it pays to lay a drop of gloss clear coat under each position beforehand. On a matte surface the edge of the carrier film would show through and the whole impression would be spoiled. Once dry, the area is evened out matte again and the transition disappears. Do not forget that you obtain the plastic model separately. The radar aerials on the nose are fragile on this version, so work with the decals only once they are fitted, to avoid knocking them off while turning the model.
