Artwox Model 1:600: a wooden deck for the HMS King George V kit from Airfix (A06205). A smaller model, just as marked a step forward in detail.
Responsibility details are not available.
This covering from Artwox Model is cut for the kit of the British battleship HMS King George V from Airfix (A06205) in 1:600 scale. It completes an assembled model and deals with a single but clearly visible shortcoming of plastic moldings: the missing texture of deck planks.
The British went into the construction of new battleships with their hands tied by international agreements on the limitation of armament. They therefore decided on a smaller caliber of main gun than their rivals carried and relied on a large number of barrels and on elaborate armor protection. Five units came about, among them the Prince of Wales, the Duke of York, the Anson and the Howe. They served in the Atlantic, covered the northern convoys and spent the end of the war in the Pacific. The Duke of York was credited with sinking the German Scharnhorst during the polar night at the end of 1943.
A smaller scale forgives less, so lay every piece down dry first and check the edges. Trim the surplus on the model itself, not by eye on the bench. A grayish cast suits the deck, but thin the paint heavily so that the grain stays readable. Finally fix the surface with a matte varnish.
