As soon as an airbrush is picked up, every touch starts to get in the way. Paint clings to skin, a finger prints itself into a dried layer and fresh varnish smears exactly where it should be smooth. The handle solves this problem in the simplest way: it puts a firm intermediate piece between the hand and the part.
Holding it by the handle allows the part to be turned smoothly without having to be put down. The spray can then be worked from several directions one after another, and the shadow under an overhang or in a corner ends up as well covered as a flat surface. The wrist meanwhile works at a natural angle, which shows in the distance of the nozzle from the surface more than one would expect.
The brand also makes a variant with an extension and a flexible rendition alongside its stands and clips. This is the simplest of the three, so it suits as a first piece, or as an addition when several parts are drying at once while you paint.
Degrease the part before spraying, otherwise the primer dries with patches. When you have finished, leave the piece on the handle to dry and put it down only by the handle. The way it clamps and the range of usable sizes are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging, as nothing more precise is stated here.
One holder is enough as long as you spray one part at a time. The moment you take on a whole model, it starts to matter that a finished piece has nowhere to be put down, and a second handle comes in useful with the very first set. Modelers who paint in stages tend to keep several to hand at once.
