1:35 US Army Base Temporary Dormitories in (Vietnam War Era)

The real subject

US Army bases in Southeast Asia went up quickly, and the quarters on them were built just as quickly. They were temporary structures meant to serve for the duration of the deployment and not for decades longer, so you will know them by their simple construction, bare framing and spartan fittings. For a diorama they are rewarding for exactly that reason: they give a scene its scale, they bound it and they allow the ordinary life of a base away from the fighting to be shown.

What the set offers

The set holds elements of quarters buildings in 1:35 scale, that is in the size that matches ordinary figures and vehicle models. The exact contents and the assembly procedure are given in the manufacturer's instructions; depending on the extent, the structure can be used as the main element of a scene or just as its edge, where only one wall and the entrance of the building are visible.

Building and painting tips

Assemble the building dry and try out its position on the base before you glue anything; leave open space around the structure, otherwise the scene looks like a backdrop. Painting is easier part by part, before gluing: the base shade, then evening out the depths with a dark tint and finally a dry brush on the edges so that the wear stands out. Wash and degrease the surface before painting and apply the paint in thin layers. Dust and mud at the foot of the structure tie the scene to the groundwork.

• Elements of temporary quarters for a diorama
• 1:35 scale, matching ordinary figures and vehicles
• The motif of a US base of the Vietnam War era
• Suitable as the main element of a scene as well as its edge
• Painting part by part before gluing makes the work easier

Who it is for

For builders of dioramas who want to set vehicles and figures into a setting, and for modelers who enjoy building the scene more than the machine itself. Figures, vehicles, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
