About product

MiG-21F-13, control stick, 1:48 (Quickboost / Aires)

A resin detail set for the pilot's cockpit of a MiG-21F-13 model in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit; the contents are the control stick, which replaces the corresponding part in the basic kit. Intended for the Eduard kits.

Why change the control stick

The stick stands in the middle of the cockpit and is visible as soon as the canopy is opened. In a kit it tends to be only a thick, soft block with no detail, because an injection mold simply will not allow a finer shape. A resin (or 3D-printed) part gives a thin stick with a modeled grip, buttons and trigger. It is a small component with a large effect: in an open cockpit it is one of the first things the eye catches, and together with the seat it makes the greatest part of the impression the interior gives.

The real subject

The MiG-21 is the most widespread supersonic aircraft in the history of aviation, and the F-13 is an early version, the first one really built in quantity. Note: the cockpit of the early F-13 differs from the later versions (MF, bis), so this part belongs specifically to the F-13 and not to any MiG-21. The type has a strong Czechoslovak connection: the MiG-21F-13 flew with the Czechoslovak Air Force and was also built under license as the S-106 at Aero Vodochody, and Czechoslovakia was the only Warsaw Pact country besides the Soviet Union to build this version in series.

Usage tips

Resin does not react to plastic model cement, so use cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) or a two-part epoxy. Cut the part off the casting block with a fine saw (do not break it, as the thin stick will snap) and level what is left of the block. Before painting, wash it in soapy water, as resin tends to carry mold release residue and the paint would peel. Sand only wet: resin dust is harmful to health and must not be inhaled. Fit the stick into a finished cockpit only after painting, so that you do not break it during further work.

Who the set is for

  • builders of the Eduard MiG-21F-13 who leave the cockpit open
  • modelers who object to a soft plastic stick
  • anyone interested in the equipment of the Czechoslovak Air Force
  • those who can work with resin and cyanoacrylate glue

This is a detail accessory, not a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. It is a cockpit detail accessory, the control stick alone. The MiG-21F-13 kit from Eduard has to be bought separately.

The set is intended for the early F-13 version from Eduard. The later versions had a differently arranged cockpit, so using it on other versions is not advisable without comparing the part yourself.

Yes, and a very strong one. The MiG-21F-13 served with the Czechoslovak Air Force and was also built under license as the S-106 at Aero Vodochody, and Czechoslovakia was the only Warsaw Pact country outside the Soviet Union to build this version in series.

Cut it off the casting block, wash the mold release agent off it, do any sanding wet (the dust is harmful to health) and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue or an epoxy, as plastic cement does not hold.
