PBY-5 Catalina correct cowlings, closed flaps (1:72, Quickboost, for Academy)

A detail accessory in resin, not a model of the aircraft. The set holds more accurately shaped cowlings for the radial engines of the Consolidated PBY-5 Catalina flying boat, in the variant with the cooling gills (cowl flaps) closed. It replaces the less accurately shaped plastic cowlings in the 1:72 Catalina kit from Academy. The set is made by Quickboost, which concentrates on small resin replacements and improvements.

Fitting and use

• Check that your base kit is the 1:72 PBY-5 Catalina from Academy, since the set is shaped for exactly that one.
• Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent so that no mold release agent is left on the surface.
• Cut the casting blocks off with a sharp scalpel or a saw, and do not break the gills at the front.
• Glue them with super glue (cyanoacrylate); cement for plastic does not hold on resin.
• Sand the surfaces after cutting wet and with your airways protected.

For modelers building the Academy Catalina in 1:72 scale who want more faithful engine cowlings with the cooling flaps closed. Working with resin assumes at least basic experience.

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package. Use a respirator and ventilate when sanding resin.
