Layered cockpit decals for the British carrier-borne anti-submarine machine Gannet in the AS1 and AS4 versions, 1:72 scale. The aircraft had three separate crew compartments one behind the other, so the set covers a considerably larger area than on a single-seat type. For the kit from the Revell brand.
Responsibility details are not available.
The anti-submarine Gannet is among the most idiosyncratic machines of the Fleet Air Arm. It was powered by two coupled turboprop units driving contra-rotating propellers, which gave it an unmistakable sound and look, and it served from the decks of aircraft carriers in the 1950s and 1960s. The crew consisted of three men seated in separate compartments one behind the other: the pilot at the front, the observer behind him and the radar operator at the back. A retractable antenna under the fuselage was extended when hunting a submarine.
A fuselage thirteen meters long in reality gives a model roughly one hundred eighty millimeters long in 1:72. Three independently equipped compartments have to fit into that length, however, and each of them is visible through its own glazing. The ratio between the area a modeler has to work and the size of the finished model is therefore unusually unfavorable. On an ordinary single-seat fighter of the same scale the cockpit is a matter of one afternoon; here it is several times that.
Fit all three compartments before you glue the fuselage halves together. Once it is closed up you cannot reach the rear sections, and any repair means cutting the finished shell open. Check dry that the parts nowhere stop the joint from closing.
The package carries decals only. It holds neither a kit nor glue nor paints, and it assumes that the crew compartments are already painted and dry. A dark base is recommended, on which the edges of the printed part practically disappear.
