VMS No-Peel Primer AIRCRAFT LIGHT GREY No.2: a light gray aircraft primer

This primer from VMS, from the No-Peel range, is an acrylic, water-thinnable product for preparing the surface of a model before painting. The no-peel label sums up the main strength of the range: the film holds so firmly that it does not lift even when masking tape is removed. The adhesion matches solvent-based primers, but without their smell. The primer holds reliably on plastic, resin, 3D printed parts and metal.

The AIRCRAFT LIGHT GREY No.2 shade is a light gray tuned for aircraft models. A neutral light gray is a universal base under aircraft camouflage: it does not distort the shades laid over it and at the same time leaves the colors plenty of brightness. Its second, no less important role is that a uniform gray surface mercilessly reveals the flaws that are invisible on bare plastic, such as unsanded joints, scratches, remains of filler or unevenness. You can then put them right before you start on the final painting.

Use

• The product comes from the manufacturer thinned to a viscosity suitable for spraying straight from an airbrush, so no thinning is needed. The manufacturer gives an airbrush as the recommended technique.
• Airbrush nozzles of 0.2 to 0.4 mm and a working pressure of roughly 20 to 40 PSI are recommended.
• Spray in thin coats. The very fine binder forms a thin film that does not clog rivets or panel lines, which is critical on aircraft models in particular.
• Once dry, look over the surface in sharp light and sand back any flaws revealed; only then apply the camouflage.
• The airbrush and the tools are cleaned with ordinary water.
