1:144 RAF Large Extinguisher (5 pcs)

Large RAF fire extinguishers, scale 1:144

A set of five large fire extinguishers in the rendition used by the RAF, in 1:144 scale. This is an accessory for an airfield diorama and for bases with models of aircraft.

What the accessory is for

A fire extinguisher belonged at an airfield to the equipment that was at hand everywhere refueling, taking off and repair work went on. On a model it has the same task as in the field: it does not catch the eye by itself, but it lends a scene a scale and settles an area that would otherwise stay empty. In the small 1:144 scale that holds doubly true, because the aircraft itself takes up little space and the surroundings have to tell the rest.

What the set contains

Five fire extinguishers in 1:144 scale. The exact dimensions of the parts, their composition and any accessories are stated by the maker in the instructions.

Building and painting tips

• The parts are tiny; work with tweezers over a light base, so that a piece does not disappear out of your field of view.
• Super glue applied in spots, with a toothpick or the tip of a wire, suits the gluing.
• Wash and degrease the parts before painting and apply a thin coat, as a heavy varnish will flood the small shapes.
• Verify the color rendition against the real subject according to the period you are building.
• Set the extinguishers out irregularly across the area, by the aircraft's stand as well as by the buildings; a regular spacing looks unnatural.

Who it is for

For a modeler who is building an airfield scene in 1:144 scale and wants it to be apparent on the area that work goes on there. It will also serve as a small accessory on a base under a model on its own.

A model of an aircraft, figures, paints and glue are not supplied, unless stated otherwise.
