An injection-molded plastic kit of the legendary German Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 fighter in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker AZ model. The Danubian users boxing concentrates on the machines that operated the Bf 109G-6 in the Danube region; the box holds decals for several color options with the markings of users from that region, among them Hungarian, Romanian and Slovak aircraft. Inside there are sprues of injection-molded plastic, a separate clear sprue with the canopy, and decals. Photo-etched parts and resin accessories are not included in the package.
The Bf 109G-6 was the most widespread production version of the Gustav and from 1943 it formed the backbone of the fighter units not only of the Luftwaffe but of the Axis allies as well. It was powered by the inverted V12 DB 605 engine, and compared with earlier Gustavs it received the heavier MG 131 machine guns, whose breeches called for the typical blisters on the upper nose, nicknamed Beulen, meaning bulges. The armament could be extended with gun pods, so the machine served against fighters and against bombers alike. In Hungary, Romania and Slovakia the Bf 109G-6 was among the most modern fighter hardware of the closing stage of the war and carried interesting markings that differed from the German machines.
The kit is of the so-called short-run type: the parts may have heavier gates and weaker locating pins, so try the assembly dry, without glue, and fine-tune the gaps with sanding and putty where need be. Finish and paint the cockpit before the fuselage is closed; mask the canopy and glue it with cement for clear parts. Lay a gloss coat on the place where the decals go, which in the small 1:72 scale reliably prevents silvering of the edges. The schemes typically rest on gray-blue and green shades, and preshading them keeps the model from looking flat. A primer and an airbrush are worth using; keep the final wear restrained, because a small model is easily over-weathered.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
