1:700 DD-119 Asahi Type Photo Etched Set

A photo-etched set for the Asahi class destroyer DD-119 in 1:700 scale

This item is not a ship model. It is an accessory set of photo-etched metal parts intended for detailing a plastic model of the Asahi class destroyer with the hull number DD-119 in 1:700 scale. The manufacturer is the Japanese firm Aoshima. The set on its own replaces nothing and adds nothing without a base model, so a corresponding ship kit is needed for the build.

Use

• Photo-etched parts are made from thin metal sheet, so they replace plastic parts that cannot be made fine enough by injection molding
• Metal sheet holds a scale thickness even on elements that in reality are formed by thin sections and grating
• The parts are broken or cut out of the fret with a sharp scalpel against a hard surface, not torn out
• Bends are made over a sharp edge or in a bending tool, so that they stay straight along their whole length
• They are glued with super glue applied in a minimal quantity, usually with the tip of a piece of wire
• Before painting it is advisable to degrease the metal and spray it with primer, because otherwise the paint holds poorly

Who the set is for

The set is intended for more experienced modelers who already build ships in 1:700 scale and want to push the level of detail beyond what a base plastic kit offers. Working with photo-etch calls for tweezers, a sharp scalpel, super glue and a steady hand, but in a small scale the result shows very markedly. Please check the actual scope of the set, that is which areas of the model it covers, against the enclosed instructions.

This is an accessory, not a standalone kit. The base ship model, the glue, the paints and the tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
