A wooden deck in 1:700 scale for a model of the German battleship Bismarck, built on the Revell kit with the catalog number 05098. It replaces the plastic surface of the deck with the natural pattern of wood.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Bismarck was among the largest surface vessels of the Kriegsmarine of the Second World War and among modelers she is one of the most frequently built ships at all. In 1:700 scale the hull comes to not quite forty centimeters, so the largest continuous area of the whole model is precisely the deck. It is there that a viewer recognizes the level of the build sooner than in any other place.
Wooden deck parts in 1:700 scale, shaped for the particular Revell kit with the catalog number 05098. The pattern of the planks here is not supplied by printing or engraving but by real wood, which has a structure of its own and a depth of shade. The parts copy the outlines of the deck areas including the cutouts around the superstructures and the turrets, so they seat without further shaping.
First try the seating dry and check whether the plastic base has remains of the molding points or flash that would lift the part up; even out any unevenness with fine sandpaper. Verify the way it is fixed in the manufacturer's instructions, because with wooden decks it differs from one item to another. Wood is as a rule not painted over, as its pattern is the very point of the accessory. If you are tuning the shade, reach for a stain or a heavily thinned paint and work over small areas, so that the part does not ripple. Seat the superstructures, the anchor gear and the gun turrets only after the deck has been glued on.
The set is intended for modelers who are building the kit given and want a faithful surface of the deck without the laborious hand painting of the pattern of planks. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
