An injection-molded plastic model of the British aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal as she was in 1939, in 1:700 scale from Trumpeter. The set contains a split hull, the flight deck, the island superstructure, a photo-etched fret, a name plate with a stand and a set of carrier aircraft with decals. It allows a faithful model of one of the best-known British prewar carriers to be built, either with the full hull or as a waterline model.
Ark Royal was a British aircraft carrier designed in the mid-1930s and completed at the end of 1938. She was the first ship in which the hangars and the flight deck formed an integral part of the hull, which made it possible to carry a numerous air group on two hangar decks. During the Second World War she made her name in a series of actions in the Mediterranean and in the Atlantic, among them the hunt for the battleship Bismarck. She was sunk in November 1941 after being hit by a German submarine torpedo.
Decide whether you will build the ship with the full hull on a stand or as a waterline model. Glue the parts with modeling cement for plastic, and glue the fine photo-etched items (railings, fittings) and the small aircraft with cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a primer before painting; the wooden flight deck and the gray British hull paint will reward subtle shading and a wash. Paint the biplanes and the other aircraft separately and place them on the deck only at the very end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
