The set is not a model but an accessory for one. A thin veneer sheet with pre-printed plank laying and a self-adhesive back goes onto the plastic deck of a model of the British light cruiser in 1:700 scale and takes over from it as the visible surface. The set is designed for the Flyhawk 1127 kit.
A light cruiser in 1:700 scale is considerably smaller than a battleship, and that changes the whole approach. The segments are narrow and the deck is heavily broken up, so the slightest shift shows as a visibly crooked row of planks. Fit the largest piece in the middle first, check that its longitudinal axis agrees with the axis of the hull, and work from there toward the bow and the stern. Press down with the blunt end of the tweezers through paper; a finger is too coarse for such narrow strips. Edges that overhang toward the sides are trimmed only after gluing, which is more accurate than guessing beforehand.
HMS Aurora was a British light cruiser of the Arethusa class, commissioned in the second half of the 1930s. During the war she served above all in the Mediterranean, where ships of this category proved themselves escorting convoys and acting against enemy shipping. Her appearance in 1945 matches the end of her wartime service.
On a small model the deck is easily over-weathered. Stay with one thin wash in the seams, blend any transition toward the sides with a dry brush and seal the whole with matte varnish.
The package holds the wooden deck only. The kit, glue and paints are not supplied.
