An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese aircraft carrier Junyo in 1:700 scale from Tamiya, part of the Waterline series. The model captures the ship with its characteristic superstructure joining the island and the funnel and with dense anti-aircraft armament. The box contains decals and deck equipment for a period rendering.
The Junyo was a Japanese aircraft carrier of the Hiyo class, converted from an unfinished ocean liner and completed in the middle of 1942. Because of its civilian basis it had a lower speed than purpose-built carriers, yet it became a full part of the operations of the Imperial Japanese Navy and took part in a number of battles in the Pacific, among others off Guadalcanal and the Marianas. Despite repeated damage it survived the war.
This is a waterline model, built down to the waterline and stood on a flat surface. Use a thin plastic cement and work in subassemblies. Apply a primer before painting and lay the colors on with an airbrush; paint the small anti-aircraft armament while it is still on the sprue. The flight deck will come into its own once the decals are on; photo-etched railings and fine naval weathering will complete the whole.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
