An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese aircraft carrier Shokaku in 1:700 scale from Tamiya, part of the Waterline series. The model captures the ship in the early period of the war and the box contains a set of carrier aircraft and decals for the markings of the flight deck (the white lines and the landing markings), so you can bring the deck to life with a whole air group.
The Shokaku was the lead ship of the class of the same name and one of the most modern Japanese aircraft carriers of the beginning of the Second World War. It was among the mainstays of the striking force (the Kido Butai) and took part in the attack on Pearl Harbor and in the key battles of the Pacific. It was sunk by an American submarine during the Battle of the Philippine Sea in 1944. It was marked by a large air group and good protection.
This is a waterline model built down to the waterline and meant for a flat surface. Use a thin plastic cement and work in subassemblies. Apply a primer before painting and lay the colors on with an airbrush; paint the small carrier aircraft and the anti-aircraft armament while they are still on the sprue. Once the decals are on, the flight deck stands out markedly; photo-etched railings will complete the whole.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
