About product

Japanese destroyer Shiratsuyu 1:700, Tamiya (Waterline Series)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese destroyer Shiratsuyu in 1:700 scale from the Waterline range by Tamiya. The Waterline form shows the ship down to the waterline, so once finished the model looks like a vessel on the surface. The box holds plastic parts and decals; the model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

The Shiratsuyu was the first of the destroyers of the class of the same name in the Imperial Japanese Navy. These were heavily armed fleet destroyers with 12.7 cm guns and powerful torpedo tubes. Ships of this class fought hard in many areas of the Pacific throughout the Second World War.

Building and painting tips

Seat the hull, cut at the waterline, on a flat surface or a stand; finish the torpedo tubes, the guns and the fine elements separately and paint them before assembly. The railings can be replaced with photo-etched parts from the accessory range. Toning with washes in the recesses of the deck and fine shading of the superstructure with a dry brush add realism.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1:700 scale
  • Ship modelers from beginners to advanced builders
  • Builders of sea scenes and harbor dioramas

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
