A plastic kit of the brand AFV Club in 1:700 scale. The set is aimed at shipborne anti-submarine helicopters of the S-70 and SH-60 family, that is at machines that are missing from the deck of practically no modern surface ship. In this scale the helicopters are tiny and their main role is to complete a model of a warship or a small display scene.
The Sikorsky S-70 family grew out of the army UH-60 Black Hawk type and its naval branch was given the designation SH-60 Seahawk. The machines are adapted for service on ships: they have a folding main rotor and tail section, strengthened landing gear and a system for hauling them down onto the deck in heavy seas. They carry a dipping sonar or sonobuoys, a radar for searching for surface targets, and they can carry torpedoes and anti-ship missiles as well. Besides fighting submarines they perform patrol, transport and rescue duties and they serve in the navies of a number of countries.
The parts in this scale are very tiny, so work over a cutting surface and with tweezers. It pays off to glue the rotor blades on only after the fuselage has been painted. A brush will manage the painting, but with an airbrush you get a thinner layer that does not cover the fine detail. The result is underlined by a very fine wash and drybrushing on the edges.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
