An injection-molded plastic kit of a modern surface ship in 1:700 scale, that is in the classic collector's scale for warships. The real subject is the Type 052C destroyer, whose first unit was the Lanzhou herself. In this scale the model comes out at a size that still fits well into a display case while offering room for detailing with photo-etched parts and accessories.
The Type 052C is a class of guided missile destroyers of the PLA Navy aimed above all at the air defense of a formation. Characteristic features are the large faces of the phased array radar built into the superstructure and the vertical launch cells for HHQ-9 series surface-to-air missiles. The ship also carries a gun mount forward, anti-ship missiles and a hangar for a shipboard helicopter. The entry of ships of this class into service in the middle of the last decade was a significant step for the PLA Navy toward modern escorts able to operate further from the coast.
With ships in 1:700 scale, decide right at the start whether you will build a full hull or the waterline version set into a sea surface. Paint the superstructures and the masts separately from the hull, otherwise it is hard to reach into the corners. It is a good idea to separate the decks and the hull with masking tape and to spray in sequence from the lighter shades to the darker ones. The detail is raised markedly by photo-etched railings, ladders and antennas bought separately. If you set the model on a stand, leave enough room for the helicopter rotor, which is easily damaged during handling.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
