An injection-molded plastic kit of the light carrier-based Douglas A-4 Skyhawk attack aircraft in the E version, in 1:72 scale from the Hobby Boss brand. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The Skyhawk is one of the smallest combat aircraft of its time, so even in 1:72 scale it is a compact model that does not take up much room in a display case.
The Skyhawk came about at the beginning of the 1950s as a deliberately small and simple carrier-based attack aircraft. The designer Ed Heinemann kept the weight so low that the aircraft managed without folding wings, which was an exception on the deck of an aircraft carrier. It was precisely the compact dimensions and the low weight that earned it a nickname referring to a hot rod. The A-4E version was given a more powerful Pratt & Whitney J52 powerplant and a larger number of racks, which widened the range of duties the aircraft could carry out. The type was produced for a very long time and served in a number of countries, among other things as a trainer and an aggressor aircraft.
Finish and paint the cockpit and the nose gear bay before you glue the halves of the fuselage together. On an aircraft with a nose gear, reckon on weight in the nose, otherwise the model will sit on its tail. The canopy is clearly visible on the Skyhawk, so it pays to mask it precisely and to glue it with canopy glue. The typical finish of carrier aircraft combines a light underside with a gray top: carry the transition smoothly with an airbrush and do not make the boundary sharp. Spray a gloss clear coat before the decals, so that no silvery edge appears under them, and unify the gloss after them according to the real subject. Fit the external stores at the very end, so that they do not get in the way during painting.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
