An injection-molded plastic kit of a large twin-boom aircraft in 1:72 scale. Thanks to its span and its pair of tail booms the model has respectable dimensions, and once built it makes a striking piece in a display case.
The Fairchild C-119 Flying Boxcar was a twin-engine transport aircraft with a cargo cabin between two tail booms. Two gunship conversions grew out of it: the AC-119G carried the name Shadow, whereas the AC-119K was designated Stinger. It is the K version that is interesting for its power: besides the pair of Wright R-3350 radial engines it received two auxiliary General Electric J85 jet engines in pods under the wing, which offset the increase in weight after the conversion. The G version did not have these jet pods, so the pairing of airframe and power on a model is easy to recognize by them. Machines of the K version also received extended equipment for night operations.
On a large model it pays to work in sections and to keep checking that the fuselage, the booms and the wing hold their geometry — long parts tend to warp. Fill and sand the seams before you start painting, because on a uniform dark camouflage every imperfection shows. Finish the cockpit and the cargo compartment before you close the fuselage. Strengthen the landing gear legs of a large aircraft and make sure the model stands evenly on all its wheels once built. Use gloss varnish under the decals and choose a matte final coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
