About product

MH models 1:72 masking set for the Czechoslovak markings of the Aero A-101

A set of self-adhesive spraying masks thanks to which the markings of the aircraft are formed by sprayed paint instead of a stuck-on decal. The mask is transferred onto a painted model, sprayed over with the target shade and removed once dry, so the insignia lies directly in the layer of paint and has no glossy carrier film around it. On a biplane with fabric covering, where matte shades and fine weathering are often used, that is a substantial difference. The set is prepared for a model of the Aero A-101 in 1:72 scale; the kit and paints are not part of the package.

The real subject

The Aero A-101 was a Czechoslovak single-engine biplane of the 1930s, intended for bombing and reconnaissance duties. It was built by Aero in Prague and served with the Czechoslovak Air Force; some of the machines went abroad as well, where they were committed in the Spanish Civil War. In design terms it was a typical machine of its day: mixed construction, a fixed landing gear and open crew positions.

How to use the masks

Let the base cure thoroughly and degrease it. Transfer the masks with tweezers and press the edges down carefully; on a model with raised ribbing of the covering give that extra attention, because it is precisely over such unevenness that the paint seeps under most easily. Spray with thinned paint in several thin coats perpendicular to the surface. Remove the mask shortly after it has dried, correct any overruns with a fine brush and finally unify the whole model with a clear varnish in the sheen you want.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of Czechoslovak aircraft of the 1930s in 1:72 scale
  • Modelers who want the markings sprayed rather than stuck on
  • Those who build biplanes with matte fabric covering
  • Modelers working with an airbrush

The package contains masks only. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is a set of masks for the markings, and an Aero A-101 kit in 1:72 scale is bought separately.

Yes, the same manufacturer also makes a set of masks for Spanish markings of the same type. It is a separate item.

The raised ribbing of the fabric covering. Paint readily seeps over unevenness, so press the edges of the mask down firmly and spray thinly.
