The accessory collection AH-64D big set in 1:72 scale from Black Dog fits out a model of this attack helicopter on a larger scale than the partial sets.

The name places the item among the more comprehensive collections, that is those that do not deal with a single area of the model. It relates to a plastic kit of the attack helicopter and will appeal to builders who want the items they need together before they start work, rather than buying more as they go.
The Apache in AH-64D form was a large step beyond the older machines: a radar above the rotor, the crew linked to their surroundings through data links and the ability to work from behind the cover of the terrain. The structure is deliberately angular and full of access hatches, because the machine had to be repairable in field conditions. It is exactly this broken-up form that makes the model a rewarding basis for detailed work.
With a larger collection the layout is the key. Go through the kit and the accessories and decide what belongs inside and has to be finished before the fuselage is closed up. Divide the painting into stages by accessibility, not by shade. And bear in mind that once everything is fitted the model will be more fragile to handle, so prepare a place where it can dry undisturbed. A restrained patina suits a machine of this type: dust on the lower surfaces, lighter wear on the edges of the hatches and darker traces behind the exhausts. Deposits of mud up to the rotor head would look untrue on a helicopter, because it moves above the terrain, not in it.
The package does not hold the kit of the machine or painting materials.
