About product

Amodel 1:72 Antonov An-24T

A short-run injection-molded kit of a twin-engine turboprop aircraft in 1:72 scale. In this scale it is a large model with a span of around forty centimeters, on which there are plenty of areas to fill and to paint. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

The An-24 is a twin-engine high-wing aircraft originally designed as a transport for short routes and undemanding airfields. The An-24T subvariant is the cargo adaptation: it got a strengthened floor, different inner equipment and a cargo opening in the rear part of the fuselage, so it could carry bulky cargo and drop materiel as well. A pair of turboprop engines placed in nacelles on the wing provides the power. Characteristic features of the type are the high-mounted wing with a pronounced kink in the outer sections and the fairly large vertical tail surface. The aircraft spread very widely in civilian as well as military service, it flew for decades and in a number of countries it was among the basic equipment of transport units. For a modeler it is interesting precisely because it is little represented in display cases and in 1:72 it looks like a striking piece.

Building and painting tips

Short-run plastic is not as accurate as mainstream production. Dry fit all the main assemblies, sand the mating surfaces down and glue in stages with tape holding the parts. Count on filling the lengthwise joints of the fuselage and on sanding them down and restoring the panel lines afterward. Finish the cockpit and the cargo area before the fuselage is closed. Fit the engine nacelles so that both sit at the same angle, or the model is visibly twisted at first glance. Mask the transparent parts and glue them only after painting. A gloss varnish before the decals will markedly simplify the work with large areas of markings.

Who the model is for

  • experienced modelers who will manage short-run plastic
  • collectors of transport aircraft in 1:72
  • anyone interested in less usual types for a display case
  • builders who are not afraid of filling and sanding large areas

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is the cargo adaptation, with a strengthened floor, different inner equipment and a cargo opening in the rear part of the fuselage.

It is not. This is short-run plastic, where the parts have to be dry fitted, the joints filled and the panel lines restored.

The contents of the package and the marking variants are given in the instructions enclosed with the kit.

In 1:72 scale it has a span of around forty centimeters, so count on matching room in a display case.
