A plastic model of the German reconnaissance armored vehicle Aufklärungspanzer 38(t) in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer UM. This injection-molded kit meant to be glued and painted offers a less usual subject that will round out the more common tanks and self-propelled guns in a collection.
The Aufklärungspanzer 38(t) came about at the close of the Second World War as a reconnaissance vehicle on the proven chassis of the 38(t) light tank of Czechoslovak origin. Instead of the original turret it carried a low open turret mount with a rapid-firing 2 cm KwK 38 gun and a machine gun, the same armament as was used on wheeled reconnaissance armored cars. The vehicle was built in a small series only, so it is an interesting and seldom seen machine that will please collectors of less known German equipment.
Start with the running gear and the tracks; in 1:72 scale that is the finest part of the build, and thin cement for plastic and tweezers suit well. The open turret invites detailed painting of the interior, so paint its inside before fitting it to the hull. Spray the camouflage with an airbrush over primer, then bring the whole thing to life with a wash in the seams and dustings on the chassis and the fenders.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
