An injection-molded plastic kit of the American experimental rocket aircraft Bell X-1E in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Special Hobby. It is a short-run multimedia model: besides the plastic, the package usually holds clear parts, photo-etched and small resin items and a decal sheet with period markings of the test aircraft from Edwards.
The X-1E was the final development stage of the famous X-1 family of rocket aircraft, with which the United States was the first to break the speed of sound. The E version received a thinner wing and a modified structure for further research into high-speed flight. It flew in the second half of the 1950s from Edwards Air Force Base in the hands of test pilots.
A short-run mold calls for cleaning the parts up and dry fitting them. Wash the resin parts and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue, and do the same with the photo-etched parts. The striking glossy single-color finish of the real aircraft is best imitated with an airbrush over a smooth base, and a gloss varnish should go on before the decals.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
