A set of photo-etched metal parts for a model of the Blohm und Voss BV 222 flying boat in 1:72 scale. It refines the detail of a plastic kit where an injection-molded part is necessarily thicker than it should be.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Blohm und Voss BV 222 was one of the largest flying boats of the Second World War. This six-engine machine with its roomy hull served the Luftwaffe mainly for long-range transport of cargo and people over the Mediterranean and the Atlantic and carried the nickname Wiking. Its size makes it an impressive model even in 1:72 scale, with a large surface on which small details tell.
It is a set of photo-etched metal parts, that is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a standalone model. Etched sheet reaches a thickness that injection-molded plastic will never approach, and it is therefore suitable everywhere a part is meant to be thin and sharp. Which parts of the machine the set refines and where the individual pieces belong is described in the manufacturer's instructions supplied with it.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade right at the point where they are held in the fret, and sand the remaining tab down. Make the bends over the edge of a hard surface or in a photo-etch bender, so that they stay sharp. It is bonded with super glue applied in a tiny amount; cement for polystyrene will not join metal. Wash and degrease the sheet before painting and use a primer intended for metal, otherwise the paint holds badly on the smooth surface.
The set belongs in the hands of a modeler who is already confident working with tweezers and with small metal parts, and it pays off above all in places that stay visible once the build is finished. Unless stated otherwise, the kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the delivery.
